I continue my morning walks to Burkes Beach. The vista is always impressive and changes daily with the weather and the advance and retreat of spring.
This morning we drove into town to do our weekly grocery shopping, taking advantage of seniors' hour (7:00 to 8:00am). While Diana was doing the shopping -- we alternate -- I wandered around outside with my camera. Beautiful light and and except for Valumart's parking lot, downtown was absolutely deserted. Social distancing is working.
Over the last little while -- Covid-19 and all -- I have often taken a morning walk to Burkes Beach on the Ottawa River at Point Alexander. This gave me the opportunity to photograph this year's ice out.
The river was opening up in the centre on the morning of April 02, but by late afternoon the river was largely ice free upstream. But ice remained along the shore. However as the week progressed, the water level rose and loosened the shore ice. By the end of the week, it would have been possible to launch a canoe directly into open water at the foot of Burkes Road.
Our understanding is that the ice went out at Deep River a little later but because we are largely isolating at home, we can't vouch for it.
On Sunday afternoon we took a break from staying at home for a short drive in the late winter / early spring sunshine. Here are a few snapshots taken with my "social distancing" lens.
