- Foymount
  Foymount is highest populated community in Ontario, located on the edge of the Ottawa-Bonnechere Graben west of Lake Clear in Renfrew County. It was formerly the site of a Pinetree Line radar base, which closed in 1974. Currently it is the home of Black Water Designs, manufacturer and distributor of high quality outdoors equipment and clothing (Sierra Designs).

- Day Trip Up the Petawawa River from Brent

We stopped to photograph the first falls where the river tumbles into Cedar Lake, visited the Corbeil gravesite, and continued upstream to the former timber slide at the second falls and then returned.
- Washout: The Destructive Power of a Burst Beaver Dam
  Sometime in early July, a beaver dam burst in the Petawawa Research Forest. The resulting torrent of water destroyed several smaller beaver dams downstream and washed out two minor roads before washing out Clouthier Road, the main access road to the Petawawa Research Forest. This page documents the destruction.
- Open House at The Algonquin Radio Observatory
  On July 19, 2008, we attended an open house at the Algonquin Radio Observatory (ARO) at Lake Travers (Lake Traverse) in Algonquin Park. The highlight was a tour of the 46 metre (150 foot) radio telescope. Some photographs of the Algonquin Radio Telescope and associated residence are presented here.

  On Saturday 2009 October 03, The Friends of Bonnechere Parks and the Ottawa chapter of the Ontario Archaeology Society hosted a Public Archaeology Day at Basin Depot in Algonquin Park. This was part of a week-long investigation of the site under the direction of licensed archaeologist Ken Swayze, extending the work done in previous excavations during the 1990s. - Brent Limestone Cliff
  The Brent Limestone Cliff, a Nature Reserve Zone in Algonquin Park, comprises a 15-foot-high limestone cliff stretching 150 feet along the south-east side of a small point on Cedar Lake at Brent. In places the cliff is deeply undercut by wave action. The limestone contains abundant fossils of several species of marine animals and shell fish.

  There are several Tom Thomson sketches that have the correct 'feel' to be of Grand Lake and yet are sufficiently generic to preclude location. They are included here.

- Berm Lake and Johnston Creek
  Several of Tom Thomson's sketches from 1916 appear to be of Berm Lake, others of the mouth of Johnston Creek on Grand Lake. These identifications are quite speculative.

  Several of Tom Thomson's sketches of 1916 are entitled as some variant of "Gorges of the Petawawa". While many of these are from the Barron Canyon, at least two appear to be from The Natch on the North Branch of the Petawawa River.

  Tom Thomson stayed at a cabin known as the Out-Side-In at Achray. Many of his sketching locations from 1916 are close by. Some of his sketches appear to have been done from right in front of the cabin.

  Several of Tom Thomson's sketches of 1916 depict "The Capes" which is now known as the Barron Canyon. The titles of most of these sketches are some variant of "Gorges of the Petawawa".

- South of Grand Lake
  Grand Lake and Stratton Lake are bounded on the south side by a line of high hills. At least one of Tom Thomson's sketches from 1916 is from atop those hills and several are from beyond those hills.
- Between St. Andrews Lake and High Falls Lake
  Two Tom Thomson sketches, The Waterfall and Autumn, Petawawa were painted along the Barron River between St. Andrews Lake and High Falls Lake. Both of these scenes were affected by the modifications made for logging along this segment of the Barron River.

- Findable but Unlocated Tom Thomson Sketching Locations
