Chalk River Rapids I normally think of the Chalk River as a placid little river. But it drops about 100 feet in its last couple of kilometers, before emptying into Sturgeon Lake and the Ottawa River. Unfortunately, that portion of the river is inaccessible as it flows through Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. In this photo, the Chalk River, in full spring flood, begins its plunge at Hwy. 17.
