Dragon's Mouth

Arethusa bulbosa, a rare Algonquin orchid.

"We shall never forget the moment when our eyes first fell on its blossom in the lonely depths of a sphagnum bog. The feeling was irresistible that we had surprised some strange, sentient creature in some secret bower of moss; that it was alert and listening intently with pricked-up ears."

An unidentified early naturalist as quoted in "The Best of the Raven", p38, published by The Friends of Algonquin Park, Whitney (1993).
