Schyan Depot

The Schyan River flows into the Ottawa River on the Quebec shore a little downstream from Deep River. In the days when the logging industry relied on horses and river drives, Schyan Depot was an important supply point. In the fall, men and supplies would cross the Ottawa in the vicinity of Deep River, land at Schyan Depot, and then make their way, by foot or wagon, to the lumber camps in the interior. They would emerge the following spring.

I regret that I don't know more of the detailed history, but some very entertaining yarns can be found in the book, "Logging on the Schyan" by Vernon Price.
