Spring Ice Metamorphosis I just happened to see this image in the viewfinder while changing camera settings. The ice surface shows all the effects of advancing spring - cracks from changes in the water level, honeycombing from the sun, and smooth, shiny areas where it has melted and refrozen. While I was taking the photo, the river was talking to me - I could hear the ice groaning and creaking. Breakup is no more than a couple of weeks away.
