Little Bonnechere River at Sligo

The Head of Canoe Navigation   

In the 19th century, this location along the Little Bonnechere River was known as the head of canoe navigation. (Note that this photo is looking across the river.) The implication is that transportation farther upstream (in support of the timber operations) was by foot or tote road. An important stopping place was established here.
