Repaving the Trans Canada Highway

Repaving   Hwy 17, the Trans Canada Highway, is being repaved between Chalk River and Point Alexander. This impressive, four vehicle tandem is tearing up and replacing the base layer of asphalt in one a continuous process. As near as we can figure, the second vehicle in line is removing and grinding up the old base layer and conveying it back to the third vehicle. This recycled material is then augmented with oil/tar piped back from the lead vehicle - the tanker truck - and the new base layer is laid by the fourth vehicle in the tandem. Rolling machines are bringing up the rear. (If we haven't got this process quite right, corrections would be appreciated.)
