A canoe outing on the upper reaches of Grant's Creek near Algonquin Park.
2004 May 19 — sunny with visibility limited due to black flies
Today, Bob, Ric, Richard, and Phil spent the day exploring the upper reaches of Grants Creek; this was new territory for all of us.
Originally, the plan was to make our way up into Christopher Robin Lake, but we were unable to find a practical portage into Kanga Lake. So we returned to the main branch of Grants Creek and proceeded upstream towards Pooh Lake. We made it to Pooh Lake without incident, but we probably spent more than half an hour at each of the two required portages trying to find a passable trail.
We turned around at the top of Tigger Lake so as to make it home by supper time.
A good trip. Pooh Lake is a very picturesque little lake — well worth a return visit. And now that we know where the portages are, we could get there much more efficiently.
